My mom has been serving me this hot drink infused with lemon, ginger, cinnamon and a touch of honey ever since I was a little girl. One teaspoon of honey in hers and two teaspoons of honey in mine (*smile*). She said it was good for detoxing -- she would usually drink hers on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. She also said this is a great after dinner drink since the ingredients aid digestion and the sweetness of the cinnamon and honey makes us not crave for dessert. I didn't pay much attention to the benefits but all I know is that it tastes delicious!
I made a big pot of this caffine-free tea last night and gave a cup to Eddie and he loved it. He didn't believe me when I told him I only used four simple ingredients to make it. He kept on asking, "what else is in there"? (Eddie probably thought I went out and bought overpriced tea leaves). He also asked me what was the benefit of this tea and I was stumped. All I remember from what mom said was detox and digestion. So, I looked it up on the internet. It turns out that this drink is quite popular -- even the Prostate Cancer Foundation put this recipe on their website under nutrition and wellness! Others claim that the drink can help them lose weight. Some even switch out the ginger for apple cider vinegar for more fat burning power. This tea also has vitamin C (thank you lemon) and lots of antioxidants, which can really help fight off a cold and boost the immune system. So, thank you mom for introducing me to such a delicious and super nutritious drink! Cheers!
