Spring is here! I don't know about you all but it is definitely time for me to drop the few extra pounds that I've been hiding under my layers of clothing! That means, seriously watching what I eat, laying off the chocolate (ha, yeah right) and trying to have low-cal meals. Having a smoothie in the morning is a great way to start the day with a low-cal meal replacement. I also drink smoothies in the middle of the day when I just want a refreshing drink to keep me full for an hour or two.
When I make smoothies, I aim to make balanced smoothie (full of vitamins and protein) that doesn't taste chalky. When I add a scoop of protein powder to the blend, I tend to end up with a thick, pasty and chalky texture (yuck). I regretfully gulp down those smoothies when I was doing the insanity workouts but those days are over -- thank goodness! To get the needed protein in the morning, I swapped out that disgusting powder for firm tofu. Due to the creamy texture of tofu, I was also able to omit milk or yogurt in the drink. What I ended up with is a creamy, tangy and full of protein smoothie. Don't believe me? Try it out yourself :)
